What is a YWAM DTS?
Our Discipleship Training School gives you the opportunity to set aside 5 months of your life to grow closer to God while giving you the opportunity to put your faith into action. After 12 weeks of training and discipleship at our campus in the beach town of Los Cerritos, Mexico, we take you on 10 weeks of outreach where you will have the opportunity to be a part of strengthening lives, communities, and nations.

What you'll learn
The DTS includes 12 weeks of transformational teaching that is delivered in a way that is dynamic and practical. A different topic is covered every week, delivered by a variety of experienced speakers, giving you the opportunity to dive deeper in your faith. Topics may include Hearing God’s Voice, Identity, Missions, Relationships, Bible Study, Nature and Character of God, and more.
You will also be placed in a small group to help you further unpack your training with others on a weekly basis. In addition to this, you will be matched with a mentor who will catch up with you regularly to encourage you and check in on your faith journey.
To help you further apply and process what you are learning, you will also be required to complete readings and several assignments throughout the course of the lecture phase.
This is so much more than just a course – you will have the opportunity to connect with God and others in a very real and personal way!
Streams in the Desert
Isaiah 43:18-19 - "Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert".
What is this part of Mexico like?
YWAM Cabo is located in the small beach town of Los Cerritos, 53 minutes north of Los Cabos, the popular and bustling tourist destination. It's a very safe town with a high amount of American residents and a low crime rate. You can easily walk around the neighborhood and count on everyone being friendly and welcoming.
This area of the Baja is just recently making a name for itself as a town is slowly rising up around the beautiful beach. This amazing surf spot has recently begun to draw in surfers from around the world. Very recently, a World Surfing League event was held here, hosting talented surfers from surrounding regions as they showcased their skills on our local break.
The population of Los Cerritos is unknown because many of the buildings are hotels and Airbnbs, catering to the transient population. We believe God has placed YWAM Cabo here at a strategic time, just as the town begins to explode in size, in order to have an established Christian presence to reach the lost.
We are a 20 minute drive to the 'Pueblo Mágico' (Magic Town) of Todos Santos. Gaining its title from many historic sites, cute shops, cobblestone streets, and thriving event scene, it's a lovely place to spend weekends and explore.
Where will I be living?
YWAM Cabo's base is just a 5 minute walk from Cerritos beach. Our facilities include 6 large 'glamping' tents, each with their own bathroom and shower, which will be student accommodation during the DTS. In addition to those and to our community spaces, we have 4 shipping containers at the base that have been converted into staff accommodation, an industrial kitchen, storage, and an office. There is also a staff house next door, another staff house around the corner, and of course Olas Retreat, our missionary retreat center just a 3 minutes walk down the road. These facilities make up our YWAM community, but the majority of events take place at the base where the glamping tents are located.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often can I expect to go surfing?
With the beach only a 5 minute walk away, there will be abundant surfing opportunities. Sometimes there will be special time carved out in the schedule to surf; other times you can choose to use your free time to get out on the water!
What does a Christian Yoga class look like?
The leader of our yoga ministry is a certified teacher through a Christian organization call Holy Yoga. Yoga is a form of exercise that strengthens muscles, increases flexibility, and develops healthy breathing techniques. In our classes, we focus on how to worship the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with our heart, mind, soul, and strength (Mark 12:30). This often includes praying in the name of Jesus, reading from the Bible, and incorporating worship music into our exercise routine.
What is YWAM Cabo's primary ministry at this stage?
Since 2022 our base leaders have been running a missionary retreat center, Olas De Cerritos, in partnership with YWAM. This beautiful property just 2 minute from the beach operates as a boutique hotel, open to all guests. This regular flow of retail guests makes the ministry possible. We offer stays at Olas De Cerritos to pastors and missionaries for heavily discounted rates, making rest and sabbatical feasible when so often it is deprioritized by people in ministry. While operating separately from the YWAM base, the two ministries are intrinsically connected and both overseen by the YWAM base leaders.
What is Cerritos beach like?
Playa Los Cerritos is a family friendly beach that is swimmable year-round. There's a blend of locals who come here regularly, as well as many tourists. It's especially popular for surfing so count on some great waves! The ground is soft and sandy.
Keep in mind when you’re swimming that there is a very strong rip at the north corner of the beach near the rocks. It's used by surfers to get out on the waters, but we recommend to stay in the more central part of the beach to avoid a potentially dangerous current.
Do I need to bring a surf board?
If you already own a surf board, awesome! Feel free to bring it.
If not, we will help you buy a foamie learners board for $145 USD. Please inquiry with us ahead of time so we can be sure to find you a board.
